Reading is like a Rain forest. Explore the different layers as you dive into a good book!
Tips for Reading at Home:
Reading daily is essential for reading development. Each child needs to try reading books on their own. Read with/to your child every day. Your child should read “just right” books when reading independently. Encourage your child to use reading strategies: stretching words, skipping, chunking, using pictures, and sounding out. Ask who, what, when, where, why questions about what you/they have read. Learn and discuss new words when reading, writing, and talking. Another idea is to have your child keep a daily writing journal where he or she can respond to texts or reflect on events that happen during their day.
